Another big plus here is that if a catalog becomes corrupt, you will only lose the development settings for a single session and not for your entire library of events. This should also make backing up your catalogs very simple. The benefit of choosing this option is that separating the catalogs out will keep Lightroom operating at peak efficiency because it will never get bogged down by having to work through too many files.
